A quick and flavorful ground beef taco skillet ready in 20 minutes, perfect for busy weeknights and casual dinners.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb (450 g) ground beef (80/20)
  • 1 medium yellow onion, diced
  • 1 cup diced bell peppers (mix of red and green)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp taco seasoning (blend of cumin, chili powder, paprika, oregano, cayenne)
  • 1 can (14.5 oz / 400 g) diced tomatoes
  • 1 can (15 oz / 425 g) black beans, drained and rinsed (optional)
  • 1 cup (100 g) shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh cilantro and lime for garnish

Instructions

  1. Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat for 1-2 minutes until shimmering.
  2. Add diced onions and bell peppers to the skillet. Cook for 4-5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until softened and fragrant.
  3. Add minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds, being careful not to burn it.
  4. Add ground beef to the skillet. Break it up with a spatula and cook for 6-7 minutes until browned and no longer pink. Drain excess fat if needed.
  5. Sprinkle taco seasoning evenly over the beef and veggies. Stir well to coat.
  6. Pour in diced tomatoes and drained black beans. Stir and let simmer for 5 minutes to meld flavors.
  7. Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over the skillet. Cover with a lid or foil and let cheese melt for 2-3 minutes.
  8. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Remove from heat and garnish with chopped fresh cilantro and a squeeze of lime juice.

Notes

Use a well-seasoned cast iron pan if you don’t have a non-stick skillet. For dairy-free, skip cheese or use plant-based alternative. Drain excess fat after browning beef to avoid sogginess. Cover skillet with foil and heavy lid if not oven-safe to melt cheese.
