Ingredients

Scale
  • 9 cups Rice Chex cereal
  • 3 cups Wheat Chex cereal
  • 2 cups pretzel twists
  • 1 ½ cups mixed nuts (cashews, almonds, pecans), unsalted or lightly salted
  • 6–8 garlic cloves, minced
  • ¾ cup (1 ½ sticks) unsalted butter
  • 3 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon smoked paprika (optional)
  • ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • ½ teaspoon salt (or to taste)
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Prep Your Ingredients (5 minutes): Measure out all cereals, pretzels, and nuts into a large mixing bowl. Toss gently with your hands to combine. Mince the garlic and set aside.
  2. Make the Garlic Butter Sauce (5 minutes): In a small saucepan over medium-low heat, melt the butter. Add the minced garlic and cook for 1-2 minutes until fragrant. Remove from heat and stir in Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, cayenne, and salt. Whisk until combined.
  3. Coat the Mix (5 minutes): Pour the garlic butter sauce over the dry ingredients in the bowl. Use a silicone spatula to fold everything together gently but thoroughly. For even coating, pour half the sauce, stir, then add the rest.
  4. Transfer to the Slow Cooker (2 minutes): Scrape the coated mix into a 6-quart or larger slow cooker. Spread it out into an even layer without packing it down.
  5. Cook on Low (2 hours): Set the slow cooker to low. Cook for 2 hours, stirring every 30 minutes. Set a timer to ensure you don’t skip a stir.
  6. Check for Doneness (2 minutes): After 2 hours, the mix should be fragrant, golden, and dry to the touch. The cereal should snap when bitten. If still soft, cook for another 15-30 minutes, stirring once more.
  7. Cool Completely (30-45 minutes): Spread the finished mix onto parchment-lined baking sheets in a single layer. Let cool completely before storing or serving.
  8. Finish and Serve (5 minutes): Once cool, transfer to a serving bowl. Sprinkle with fresh parsley if desired. Taste and adjust salt if needed.

Notes

Stir every 30 minutes to prevent burning. Do not cook on high. Let cool completely for maximum crunch. For gluten-free, use Rice Chex and gluten-free pretzels. For dairy-free, use vegan butter. The mix tastes even better the next day.
