A quick and easy cheesy layered taco dip featuring seasoned ground meat, refried beans, and a fun spiderweb sour cream design, perfect for parties and casual gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef or turkey
  • 1 packet taco seasoning mix (or about 2 tablespoons homemade blend)
  • 1 can (16 oz) refried beans
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese
  • 1 cup diced tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup sliced black olives
  • 1/2 cup chopped green onions
  • 12 diced jalapeños (optional)
  • Taco chips or tortilla chips for serving

Instructions

  1. Heat a skillet over medium heat and add 1 lb of ground beef or turkey. Break it up with a spatula and cook until browned, about 6-8 minutes. Drain excess fat if needed.
  2. Stir in 1 packet of taco seasoning with 1/4 cup water. Simmer for 3-4 minutes until thickened. Set aside to cool slightly.
  3. Spread the 16 oz can of refried beans evenly across the bottom of an 8×8-inch baking dish.
  4. Evenly distribute the cooked seasoned meat over the beans and press down gently to create an even surface.
  5. Sprinkle 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese evenly over the meat, followed by 1 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese.
  6. Scatter 1 cup diced tomatoes, 1/2 cup sliced black olives, 1/2 cup chopped green onions, and optional diced jalapeños over the cheese layer.
  7. Dollop 1 cup sour cream into a piping bag or zip-top bag, snip a small corner, and drizzle sour cream in concentric circles over the top of the dip.
  8. Use a toothpick or skewer to drag lines from the center outward, creating a spiderweb pattern.
  9. Preheat oven to 350°F and bake the dip uncovered for 20-25 minutes until cheese is bubbly and edges start to brown slightly.
  10. Let the dip cool for 5 minutes before serving with sturdy taco chips.

Notes

Use full-fat sour cream for creamiest texture or Greek yogurt as a lighter alternative. For vegetarian version, substitute meat with cooked lentils or meat substitute. Let dip rest 5 minutes after baking to set layers. Add fresh sour cream on top if it thickens too much in oven. Use thick, sturdy chips for serving to avoid breakage.
