These easy slow cooker cranberry meatballs with chili sauce glaze are proof that the best recipes often come from the most unexpected places—like a late-night pantry raid when you’re too tired to overthink things. They’re simple enough for a busy Tuesday but impressive enough for a holiday party.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pounds frozen fully cooked meatballs (homestyle or Italian-style)
  • 1 can (14 ounces) whole berry cranberry sauce
  • 1 bottle (12 ounces) chili sauce (e.g., Heinz)
  • 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Optional garnish: fresh chopped parsley or sliced green onions

Instructions

  1. In a medium mixing bowl, combine the whole can of cranberry sauce, the entire bottle of chili sauce, the packed brown sugar, fresh lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, and garlic powder. Whisk everything together until the cranberry sauce is broken up and the mixture is relatively smooth.
  2. Place the frozen meatballs directly into the slow cooker insert. No need to thaw or brown. Spread them into an even layer.
  3. Pour the prepared sauce mixture evenly over the meatballs. Use a spatula to scrape every last bit out of the bowl. Gently stir to coat the meatballs as evenly as possible.
  4. Cover the slow cooker with the lid and cook on low for 4 hours or on high for 2 hours. For best texture and flavor, cook on low for 4 hours.
  5. Optional: About halfway through cooking, give the meatballs a gentle stir to ensure even coating and prevent sticking.
  6. During the last 30 minutes, check the sauce consistency. If it seems too thin, remove the lid and cook on high for the final 30 minutes to allow some liquid to evaporate and concentrate the flavors.
  7. Once the meatballs are heated through and the sauce has reached your desired consistency, transfer them to a serving dish using a slotted spoon or tongs. Spoon a little extra sauce over the top, then garnish with fresh chopped parsley or sliced green onions if desired. Serve immediately.

Notes

For a gluten-free version, ensure your meatballs and Worcestershire sauce are certified gluten-free. For a lower-sugar option, use sugar-free cranberry sauce and reduce the brown sugar to 2 tablespoons. If you don’t have chili sauce, substitute with 1 cup of ketchup mixed with 2 tablespoons of sriracha or hot sauce. For thicker sauce, cook on low for 4 hours, then remove lid and cook on high for an additional 30-45 minutes. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days or frozen for up to 3 months.
