  • 1 lb ground beef (80/20)
  • 6 strips thick-cut bacon, chopped
  • 1 ½ cups shredded cheddar cheese (150 g)
  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened (115 g)
  • ½ medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • ½ cup diced green bell pepper (optional)
  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ cup heavy cream (120 ml)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Cook the bacon in a skillet over medium heat until crisp, about 6-8 minutes. Remove and drain on paper towels, leaving some bacon fat in the pan.
  3. Sauté the chopped onions in the bacon fat for 3 minutes until softened, then add minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
  4. Add ground beef to the skillet with onions and garlic. Season with salt, pepper, and Worcestershire sauce. Cook, breaking apart with a spatula, until no pink remains, about 7-9 minutes. Drain excess fat if needed.
  5. In a mixing bowl, beat softened cream cheese until smooth. Add eggs and heavy cream, whisking until fully blended.
  6. Spread the cooked beef mixture evenly in an 8×8 inch casserole dish. Sprinkle chopped bacon and optional diced green bell pepper on top.
  7. Pour the cream cheese mixture evenly over the meat layer.
  8. Generously sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over everything.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes until the cheese is melted and slightly browned.
  10. Let the casserole rest for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

If cheese browns too quickly, tent casserole loosely with foil halfway through baking. Use room temperature eggs and cream cheese for smooth mixture. Drain excess fat from beef to avoid greasiness. Let casserole rest 5 minutes before serving for easier slicing.
