A quick and easy garlic naan bread recipe ready in 15 minutes, perfect for busy weeknights and pairing with curries or as a snack. Soft, chewy, and topped with buttery garlic goodness.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups (250 g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¾ cup (180 ml) Greek yogurt, plain full-fat
  • 23 tablespoons (3045 ml) water
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 3 tablespoons (45 g) unsalted butter, melted
  • Fresh cilantro, chopped (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, whisk together 2 cups (250 g) all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon baking powder, and ½ teaspoon salt.
  2. Stir in ¾ cup (180 ml) Greek yogurt and 2 tablespoons (30 ml) water until a rough dough forms. Add extra tablespoon of water if dough feels too dry.
  3. Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead gently for 3-4 minutes until smooth and elastic. Cover with a damp towel and let rest for 5 minutes.
  4. Divide dough into 6 equal portions. Roll each ball into an oval or tear-drop shape about ¼ inch (6 mm) thick.
  5. Mix 3 tablespoons melted butter with minced garlic and optional chopped cilantro in a small bowl.
  6. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat until hot. Cook each naan for 1-2 minutes on each side until bubbles form and golden spots appear.
  7. Brush cooked naan immediately with garlic butter while hot.
  8. Repeat with remaining dough pieces, adjusting heat as needed.

Notes

Use medium-high heat for cooking to get golden spots without burning. Rest dough for 5 minutes to relax gluten. Brush garlic butter immediately after cooking for best flavor. If dough is sticky, dust lightly with flour but avoid over-flouring to keep naan soft.
