These easy fresh Caprese skewers with balsamic glaze drizzle combine juicy cherry tomatoes, creamy mozzarella, and fragrant basil for a quick, fresh appetizer perfect for any gathering.

Ingredients

  • Cherry tomatoes, ripe and firm
  • Fresh mozzarella balls (Bocconcini or Ciliegine), drained and patted dry
  • Fresh basil leaves, washed and patted dry
  • Balsamic glaze (store-bought or homemade)
  • Extra virgin olive oil, about 1 tablespoon
  • Sea salt, to taste
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • Wooden or bamboo skewers, about 4 inches long
  • Optional: garlic powder, a pinch
  • Optional: red pepper flakes, to taste
  • Optional: heirloom cherry tomatoes for color

Instructions

  1. Rinse cherry tomatoes and basil leaves under cold water. Pat dry gently with paper towels to avoid sogginess. Drain mozzarella balls and lightly pat dry.
  2. Place tomatoes and mozzarella in a mixing bowl. Drizzle with about 1 tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil, sprinkle with sea salt and freshly ground black pepper. Toss gently to coat.
  3. Take a skewer and thread one cherry tomato, followed by a fresh basil leaf (folded if large), then a mozzarella ball. Repeat the pattern if skewers are longer, finishing with a tomato.
  4. Lay the skewers neatly on a serving platter. Using a spoon or small whisk, drizzle balsamic glaze over the skewers. Optionally, sprinkle garlic powder or red pepper flakes for extra kick.
  5. Optionally, sprinkle flaky sea salt on top before serving.

Notes

Soak wooden skewers in water for 10 minutes before use if you plan to lightly grill. Dry ingredients thoroughly to avoid soggy skewers. Drizzle balsamic glaze just before serving to keep skewers fresh. Optional light grilling adds smoky flavor but serve immediately.
