A hands-off, crowd-friendly pulled pork slider recipe cooked low and slow in a crockpot, delivering tender, smoky, and tangy BBQ flavors perfect for gatherings and potlucks.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 to 4 pounds pork shoulder (boneless)
  • 1 tablespoon smoked paprika
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
  • 1 cup barbecue sauce
  • ½ cup apple cider vinegar
  • ½ cup chicken broth or water
  • 24 slider buns (soft dinner rolls)
  • Pickles, coleslaw, or extra BBQ sauce (optional toppings)

Instructions

  1. Trim any excessive fat from the pork shoulder and pat dry with paper towels.
  2. In a small bowl, combine smoked paprika, brown sugar, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper if using.
  3. Rub the spice mix all over the pork shoulder, pressing it into the meat for full coverage.
  4. Place the pork into the crockpot. Pour barbecue sauce, apple cider vinegar, and chicken broth or water around the pork, avoiding washing off the rub.
  5. Cover and cook on low for 8 to 10 hours until the pork is fork-tender.
  6. Remove the pork from the crockpot and shred it using two forks or shredding claws, discarding large chunks of fat.
  7. Return shredded pork to the crockpot and stir into the cooking juices and BBQ sauce. Keep warm on low.
  8. Toast slider buns lightly if desired. Assemble sliders by piling pulled pork on buns and adding pickles or coleslaw if desired. Serve immediately.

Notes

If the sauce is too thin after shredding, cook on high for 15-20 minutes to thicken. Use firm pork shoulder with marbling for best shredding. Toast buns lightly to prevent sogginess. Save and stir the cooking juices back into the pork for moisture and flavor. For a low-carb option, use almond flour buns or lettuce wraps. The recipe can be adapted for Instant Pot cooking (1 hour on meat/stew setting).
