A quick and easy snack featuring crisp apple slices dipped in silky caramel, perfect for lunchboxes and a sweet yet balanced treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • Firm, crisp apples (Honeycrisp, Fuji, or Granny Smith)
  • 1 cup (240 ml) caramel candies or caramel sauce
  • 1 tablespoon (14 g) unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) heavy cream (optional but recommended)
  • Pinch of flaky sea salt
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Wash and dry apples thoroughly. Slice into 1/4-inch (6 mm) thick wedges, removing the core.
  2. Toss apple slices in a bowl with 1 teaspoon lemon juice to prevent browning. Set aside.
  3. In a double boiler or microwave-safe bowl, combine caramel candies or sauce with butter and heavy cream.
  4. Melt gently, stirring until smooth and silky. If microwaving, heat in 30-second increments, stirring between each.
  5. Dip each apple slice into the warm caramel using a fork or toothpick. Let excess drip off.
  6. Place dipped slices on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  7. Immediately sprinkle flaky sea salt on the caramel before it sets.
  8. Allow caramel to firm up at room temperature for 15-20 minutes or refrigerate for faster setting.
  9. Once set, transfer to airtight containers or lunchboxes.

Notes

Use room temperature apples to prevent caramel from seizing. Do not overcrowd baking sheet to avoid sticking. If caramel thickens too much, rewarm gently before dipping. For dairy-free version, substitute heavy cream with coconut cream and use dairy-free caramel.
