A simple and wholesome snack of thinly sliced apples baked slowly with cinnamon to achieve a perfectly crisp and flavorful chip. Ideal for anytime snacking, these chips are healthy, easy to make, and customizable.

Ingredients

Scale
  • Apples (firm varieties like Honeycrisp, Fuji, or Granny Smith)
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon maple syrup or honey (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 200°F (95°C).
  2. Wash and dry the apples thoroughly. Core and slice them thinly, about 1/8-inch (3mm) thick, using a mandoline slicer or sharp knife.
  3. In a mixing bowl, toss the apple slices with 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice, 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon, and if desired, 1 teaspoon maple syrup or honey.
  4. Arrange the apple slices in a single layer on a parchment-lined baking sheet, ensuring slices do not overlap.
  5. Bake for 1 hour at 200°F (95°C).
  6. Flip each slice carefully to the other side.
  7. Continue baking for another 1 to 1.5 hours until the slices are dry and crisp, watching closely after 2 hours to avoid overbaking.
  8. Remove from oven and transfer chips to a cooling rack to cool completely and crisp up.
  9. Store cooled chips in an airtight container at room temperature.

Notes

Use uniform thin slices for even baking and crispiness. Baking at low temperature slowly dries the apples without burning. Flip slices halfway through baking for even drying. Cool completely before storing to maintain crispness. If chips soften over time, reheat in a low oven (175°F / 80°C) for 10-15 minutes to restore crunch. Optional spices like nutmeg or ginger can be added for variation. Sweetener is optional depending on apple sweetness.
