A quick and easy air fryer asparagus recipe tossed with lemon zest, Parmesan cheese, and olive oil for a crispy, flavorful side dish perfect for any meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound fresh asparagus, trimmed
  • 1 to 2 tablespoons olive oil (extra virgin preferred)
  • Zest of 1 lemon
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup (25 g) grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Trim the asparagus by snapping or cutting off the woody ends, about 1 to 2 inches from the bottom. Ensure spears are clean and dry.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine olive oil, lemon zest, lemon juice, grated Parmesan, garlic powder (if using), salt, and pepper. Stir well to blend.
  3. Add the trimmed asparagus to the bowl and toss until evenly coated with the seasoning mixture, ensuring Parmesan sticks well.
  4. Preheat the air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for 3 minutes.
  5. Arrange asparagus in a single layer in the air fryer basket to allow hot air circulation.
  6. Air fry at 400°F (200°C) for 7 to 9 minutes, shaking or flipping halfway through for even cooking. The asparagus should be tender but crisp with golden edges.
  7. Remove from the air fryer, taste for seasoning, and add more lemon juice or Parmesan if desired. Serve immediately.

Notes

Do not overcrowd the air fryer basket to ensure even crisping. Pat asparagus dry before seasoning to avoid steaming. Use freshly grated Parmesan for best crispness. Flip asparagus halfway through cooking. Adjust cooking time for thicker spears by adding 1-2 minutes. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days and reheat in the air fryer at 350°F for 3-4 minutes. Avoid microwaving to maintain crispness.
