A vibrant and creamy seven-layer salad featuring fresh veggies, smoky bacon, hard-boiled eggs, sharp cheddar, and a tangy dressing. Perfect for gatherings, potlucks, or a refreshing side dish.

Ingredients

Scale
  • Iceberg lettuce, shredded
  • Cherry tomatoes, halved
  • Fresh cucumbers, diced
  • Red onion, finely chopped
  • Cooked bacon, crumbled (thick-cut recommended)
  • Hard-boiled eggs, chopped
  • Sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1 cup mayonnaise (full-fat or Greek yogurt for lighter version)
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 2 teaspoons apple cider vinegar or fresh lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon sugar or honey
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Wash and dry iceberg lettuce thoroughly, then shred into bite-size pieces.
  2. In a clear bowl, spread shredded iceberg lettuce evenly as the base, filling about one-third of the bowl’s height.
  3. Scatter halved cherry tomatoes evenly over the lettuce layer.
  4. Sprinkle diced cucumbers and finely chopped red onion on top of the tomatoes.
  5. In a medium bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, sour cream, apple cider vinegar or lemon juice, sugar or honey, salt, and black pepper until smooth and tangy.
  6. Carefully spoon the creamy dressing over the layered veggies, covering them evenly but gently.
  7. Sprinkle crumbled cooked bacon and chopped hard-boiled eggs over the creamy layer.
  8. Top the salad with a generous layer of shredded sharp cheddar cheese.
  9. Cover the salad with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, preferably overnight.
  10. Before serving, gently drain any excess liquid if needed and scoop through all layers to serve.

Notes

Dry lettuce thoroughly to avoid soggy salad. Chill salad for at least 2 hours or overnight for best flavor. Use Greek yogurt instead of mayo and sour cream for a lighter dressing. For vegetarian version, omit bacon and add toasted nuts or seeds. Add avocado just before serving to avoid browning.
