A sweet and savory breakfast sandwich combining glazed donuts with melted sharp cheddar and mozzarella cheese, cooked to a crispy golden perfection. Quick and easy to make, perfect for breakfast or brunch.

  • 2 large plain glazed donuts, sliced in half horizontally
  • 2 slices sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 slice mozzarella cheese
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  • Optional: pinch of cinnamon
  • Optional: drizzle of honey
  • Optional: a few slices of crispy bacon

Instructions

  1. Slice the glazed donuts in half horizontally to create two sandwich buns.
  2. Spread about 1 tablespoon of softened butter on the outside of each donut half.
  3. Place one donut half, buttered side down, on a plate or cutting board.
  4. Layer 2 slices of sharp cheddar cheese and 1 slice of mozzarella on top.
  5. Cover with the other donut half, buttered side up.
  6. Warm a non-stick skillet or cast iron pan over medium-low heat.
  7. Place the sandwich gently in the skillet and cook for 3-4 minutes on the first side until golden brown and crispy.
  8. Carefully flip the sandwich and cook for another 4 minutes on the second side.
  9. Press lightly with a spatula to help the cheese melt evenly inside, cooking for an additional 2-3 minutes.
  10. Remove the sandwich from the skillet and let it rest for 1-2 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

Cook on medium-low heat to prevent burning the donut before the cheese melts. Use softened butter for even browning. Flip gently with a wide spatula to avoid breaking the sandwich. Avoid overcrowding the pan by cooking one sandwich at a time. For dairy-free or gluten-free versions, use appropriate substitutes.
