  • 2 cups crushed pretzel sticks (about 100g)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour (120g)
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • Cooking spray or olive oil

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat to prevent sticking.
  2. Prepare the coating stations: In one bowl, place about 1 cup (120g) of all-purpose flour. In a second bowl, beat 2 large eggs until smooth. In a third bowl, add 2 cups (about 100g) of crushed pretzel sticks mixed with 1 teaspoon garlic powder and ½ teaspoon smoked paprika.
  3. Cut the string cheese sticks in half to make them easier to handle and snack-sized.
  4. Coat each cheese piece: First, dredge in flour, shaking off excess. Then dip into the beaten egg, making sure it’s fully coated. Finally, roll it in the crushed pretzel mixture, pressing gently to stick the crumbs.
  5. Place the coated cheese sticks on the baking sheet, spacing them about an inch apart to avoid sticking when they melt.
  6. Spray the pretzel-coated sticks lightly with cooking spray or brush with olive oil to help them get a crispy, golden finish.
  7. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until the pretzels are golden brown and the cheese is melted and gooey inside.
  8. Remove from the oven and let cool for 3-5 minutes to allow the cheese to set slightly.
  9. Serve warm with your favorite dipping sauce or as is.

Notes

Chill the string cheese sticks for 15 minutes before coating to help the coating stick better and prevent premature melting. Press the pretzel coating firmly onto the cheese for a crunchier crust. Watch the oven closely to avoid burning; check at 12 minutes. Use a rimmed baking sheet to contain any cheese drips. Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 2 days and reheated at 350°F for 5-7 minutes.
