These crispy air fryer wontons feature a golden, crunchy exterior with a savory juicy filling, perfect for quick snacks, appetizers, or family gatherings. Made with simple ingredients and cooked in an air fryer for a healthier twist on a classic favorite.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground pork (lean but juicy cuts preferred)
  • 3 stalks green onions, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce (Kikkoman recommended)
  • 1 teaspoon toasted sesame oil
  • 1/2 cup water chestnuts, finely chopped (optional)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • About 40 wonton wrappers (fresh or frozen)
  • 1 large egg, beaten (for sealing edges)
  • Soy sauce or sweet chili sauce for dipping (optional)
  • Fresh cilantro or sesame seeds for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Filling (10 minutes): In a large mixing bowl, combine ground pork, green onions, garlic, and ginger. Add soy sauce, toasted sesame oil, and water chestnuts if using. Season with salt and pepper. Mix well until fully combined and slightly sticky.
  2. Assemble the Wontons (15 minutes): Lay out wonton wrappers on a clean surface and keep unused wrappers covered with a damp cloth. Brush edges of each wrapper lightly with beaten egg. Place about 1 teaspoon of filling in the center. Fold wrapper into a triangle and press edges firmly to seal. Optionally, fold corners together for classic wonton shape. Repeat until all filling is used.
  3. Preheat the Air Fryer (3 minutes): Set air fryer to 375°F (190°C) and let warm up.
  4. Cook the Wontons (8-10 minutes per batch): Arrange wontons in a single layer in the air fryer basket without touching. Cook for about 8 minutes, flipping halfway if needed, until golden and crispy.
  5. Serve Immediately: Transfer wontons to a plate, garnish with sesame seeds or cilantro if desired, and serve with dipping sauces. Best enjoyed fresh and hot.

Notes

Keep wonton wrappers covered with a damp towel while assembling to prevent drying and cracking. Do not overfill wontons to avoid bursting during cooking. Lightly spray air fryer basket with oil to prevent sticking. Cook in batches without overcrowding for even crispiness. Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 2 days and reheated in the air fryer at 350°F for 3-4 minutes. Wontons can be frozen before cooking; cook from frozen adding a few extra minutes.
