Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 slices white sandwich bread, crusts removed
  • 2 tablespoons (30g) unsalted butter or margarine, softened
  • Hundreds and Thousands sprinkles (bright, multi-colored)
  • Assorted cheeses (cheddar, brie, gouda), about 150g (5 oz) each
  • Cured meats (prosciutto, salami, chorizo), about 100g (3.5 oz) total
  • Crunchy crackers or breadsticks
  • Fresh berries (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries)
  • Mini marshmallows or pastel-colored candy pieces (optional)
  • Honey or fruit preserves
  • Fresh mint or edible flowers
  • Chocolate chips or chunks

Instructions

  1. Prepare the fairy bread by removing crusts from 8 slices of white sandwich bread.
  2. Spread a generous, even layer of softened unsalted butter (about 2 tablespoons or 30g) on each slice.
  3. Sprinkle hundreds and thousands liberally over the buttered side and press lightly to help them stick.
  4. Cut each slice into triangles or use cookie cutters to make stars or hearts for a whimsical touch.
  5. Arrange the prepared fairy bread pieces on one section of your serving board.
  6. Slice assorted cheeses into bite-sized pieces or wedges and arrange next to the fairy bread.
  7. Add cured meats folded or rolled into pretty shapes.
  8. Scatter crunchy crackers or breadsticks in small piles.
  9. Fill small bowls with honey or fruit preserves and set them on the board.
  10. Place fresh berries and mini marshmallows around the edges for pops of color and sweetness.
  11. Top some cheese pieces with edible flowers or fresh mint leaves for visual appeal.
  12. Add a few chocolate chips or chunks for little surprises.
  13. Fill any empty gaps with extra sprinkles or berries to keep the board looking abundant and inviting.

Notes

Assemble the board shortly before serving (within 30 minutes) to keep bread fresh and sprinkles crunchy. Use softened butter at room temperature to avoid tearing bread. Fresh bread baked within 1-2 days is best. For gluten-free or dairy-free options, swap bread, butter, and cheeses accordingly. Toast bread lightly before buttering for a crunchier texture if desired. Store leftover fairy bread separately at room temperature for up to 24 hours; refrigerate cheese and meats and consume within 2 days.
